We are committed to transforming the lives of people affected by domestic violence guided by empathy, education and empowerment.
read moreBack in 1988, a group of caring people from Victor Valley came together to help women and kids escape violence at home. In 1991, they started a hotline where women could call for help anytime, day or night. As they learned more about what these survivors needed, they began providing things like emergency hotel stays to keep families safe. By 1993, they had a safe house for women with kids who were running away from domestic violence. This place was set up thanks to the community's support, and even the garage was turned into an office. One of the founders, Margaret Diaz, knew how tough it is to leave an abusive home, and she made sure they had a safe place to go.
At A Better Way, we're here for you. Every year, we help over 1,500 people just like you. We have a safe place where you can stay, and it's not just a shelter; it's a 26-bed home where you can rebuild your life. Most of the people we help are women with children, and we're here to support you every step of the way.
We work with survivors of domestic violence to help you plan for a brighter future. We'll help you find a safe home after leaving the shelter, boost your self-confidence, and teach you the skills to be self-sufficient. We understand the pain you've been through, and we're here to empower you to have healthy, violence-free relationships. We'll even help you heal and support your children so they can break free from the cycle of violence. A Better Way is all about transforming lives, and we do it with care, compassion, and a focus on your needs. We're here to provide you with the basics you need, like shelter, food, and clothing, as you take steps towards a better life.
